As was the case with all other 1972 full size models from Chrysler Corp., this year's big Dodges received a substantial facelift of the body side sheetmetal. The roofline of the two-door hardtops was also changed, as can be seen by the coupe's C-pillar.
The Polara was again the base level Dodge. Its front and rear bumper was redesigned from previous year. The Polara's standard powerplant was the 318 cui V8.
The Monaco came with the 360 cui engine standard and functioned again as the top-level Dodge. However, it was set further apart from the Polara line than in 1971. This was achieved by a very different front and rear end styling featuring concealed headlights.
